Road Gravel 8–16 mm
Road gravel 8–16 mm is the larger, load-tolerant version of the classic German rolled gravel — the same washed, round-grained natural stone, but in a grain window that handles vehicle traffic and serious drainage tasks. This fraction is what you want when 2–8 mm is too fine: under car wheels, around soakaways, and as a coarse aggregate for site-mixed concrete.
Features and benefits
The 8–16 mm round gravel offers excellent water permeability thanks to the consistent void structure between its round grains. It is frost-resistant, washed to a low fines content, and produced under EN 12620 / EN 13242 grading standards. The smooth, weathered surface of each grain keeps the material from being abrasive on tires or shoes.
Areas of application
Use this gravel as a top layer for low-speed driveways, as the filter and drainage layer around foundation drains, in rainwater soakaways and infiltration trenches, and as the coarse aggregate when mixing concrete on site. It is also the right choice for filling gabion baskets where a uniform, decorative look matters, and as a base for garden sheds and workshop foundations.
Expert tip on processing
Always lay 8–16 mm round gravel on top of a compacted sub-base of natural stone gravel 0–32 mm — never directly on bare soil, where the rounded grains will work their way down within a single season. Finished gravel depth should be 7–10 cm for occasional vehicle traffic. For soakaways, wrap the trench in a permeable geotextile before filling.
