Road Gravel 2–8 mm
Road gravel 2–8 mm is the classic round-grained natural gravel that has shaped German garden and road construction for generations. Sourced from glacial deposits and washed to a clean 2–8 mm grain window, this material is what landscapers reach for when they need a walkable, drainable, and visually warm surface. The rounded grain shape gives it a soft underfoot feel and a natural, traditional appearance.
Features and benefits
The roundness of this road gravel is its defining technical property. Round grains pack with consistent voids, which means high water permeability and reliable drainage behavior — water passes straight through instead of pooling. The material is frost-resistant, washed to remove silt and clay fines, and produced under EN 12620 / EN 13242 quality standards. It is non-reactive, color-stable, and weathers slowly even under direct UV exposure.
Areas of application
Use this gravel for garden paths, courtyard surfacing, parking-pad covering, and decorative ground cover. As a drainage layer it works around foundation drains, behind retaining walls, and as filter material around perforated pipes. In concrete production, the 2–8 mm fraction is a standard rounded aggregate. It is also widely used as a base for sheds, garden houses, and rainwater infiltration trenches.
Expert tip on processing
A 5–7 cm finished gravel layer over a stabilised geotextile is recommended for garden paths — anything thinner gets walked through to the subsoil, anything thicker becomes hard to walk on. For driveways, use a compacted base of natural stone gravel 0–32 mm underneath, then top with this 2–8 mm round gravel. The combination keeps the surface stable and the look natural.
