RTC 0–45 mm
RTC 0–45 mm is the heavy-duty version of the standard recycled construction aggregate — the same crushed concrete and masonry composition, but with the maximum grain size extended to 45 mm for higher load-bearing performance and faster build-up of thick sub-base layers. This is the right material when you are constructing under truck traffic, on industrial yards, or building up several meters of fill, where the coarser top size delivers better structural locking and saves time on placement.
Features and benefits
The 0–45 mm grading provides exceptional bearing capacity once compacted — the larger grain top size mechanically interlocks under repeated heavy load, and the continuous fine fraction fills the voids for proctor densities well above 90%. RTC 0–45 mm complies with the German RC-Schotter classification and TL Gestein-StB requirements for road sub-base applications. It is frost-resistant and offers a measurable carbon-saving versus virgin natural stone.
Areas of application
Use RTC 0–45 mm as the structural sub-base under industrial yards, logistics pads, container storage areas, agricultural roads, and heavy-traffic driveways. It is the standard backfill for deep foundation excavations and building-up of plot levels by 30 cm or more. In municipal road construction it serves as the lower layer of a multi-stage sub-base, typically topped with finer RTC 0–32 mm or natural stone gravel 0–32 mm.
Expert tip on processing
Use RTC 0–45 mm for any sub-base thicker than 30 cm — the coarser fraction places faster, compacts more efficiently, and reaches required bearing values with fewer passes. Lay in 20 cm lifts and compact each layer with a heavy plate or small roller while lightly moist. For the finishing top layer, switch to RTC 0–32 mm or natural stone gravel 0–32 mm to get a tighter, smoother grade.
