Crushed Sand 0–2 mm
Crushed sand 0–2 mm is the workhorse fine aggregate for every professional paver and slab installation in the Berlin–Brandenburg region. Produced by mechanically crushing natural rock down to a tightly defined 0–2 mm grain window, this material delivers the angular grain structure that natural rounded sand simply cannot match. The result is a bedding layer that locks under load instead of shifting — exactly what you need beneath concrete pavers, natural stone slabs, or kerbstones.
Features and benefits
The angular grain shape gives it excellent interlocking and compaction behavior, which translates directly into long-term stability. Conforming to the principles of EN 13242 for aggregates in civil engineering, the material is frost-resistant, washed to a low fines content, and remains dimensionally stable under repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The tight 0–2 mm sieving keeps the bedding layer uniform and prevents the uneven settling that plagues installations made with poorly graded sand.
Areas of application
Use this crushed sand as a 3–5 cm bedding layer beneath concrete pavers, terrace slabs, and natural stone. It also performs reliably as a leveling course over a compacted sub-base, as joint filler for tight-jointed paving, and as a stable base for setting kerbstones in mortar. In garden construction it works equally well for fixing pond liners, bedding garden edging, and creating a clean base for outdoor furniture pads.
Expert tip on processing
Always lay a 3–5 cm bedding layer of crushed sand 0–2 mm on a properly compacted base course — never deeper, because anything beyond 5 cm will settle unevenly under traffic load. Screed the sand level with a straight edge, set your pavers, then sweep dry into the joints before the first water pass. Combine with gravel/road gravel 2–8 mm as the load-bearing sub-base for a complete, professional build-up.
