This premium natural stone in the classic 16–32 mm grading is produced by crushing solid volcanic rock that was formed over millions of years through the cooling of magma, creating one of the hardest rock types on Earth. The key strength of this material lies in its extremely high compressive strength and load-bearing capacity. Since the chippings are 100% frost- and de-icing salt-resistant, they remain dimensionally stable and colorfast for decades without fading due to UV exposure. A special screening process removes the fine particle fraction (known as the “zero fraction”). The result is a highly permeable material that effectively prevents waterlogging and allows rainwater to drain directly into the subsoil.

Expert Installation Tip
Based on many years of experience in landscaping, I recommend a layer thickness of approximately 6 to 8 cm for full visual coverage. To keep maintenance permanently low, a high-quality weed control fabric should be installed underneath the chippings. This not only prevents unwanted weed growth from below, but also cleanly separates the premium basalt from the soil, preventing it from gradually sinking into the ground over time.
